In a vacuum tumbler dryer, wet particulate matter can be dried by indirect heat transfer to the material while the material is in a gentle rolling and folding motion due to gravity. These tumbler dryers have the potential to produce a finally dry mix rather than dry cake. Drying occurs at a reasonable rate at relatively low temp.

The jacket temp can range upto 300°C while the vacuum in the dryer can be as low as 1m bar. The batch usually occupying upto 60% at the dryer volume. Drying cycles upto 20 hr.
